The Coroner's Bureau is releasing the identity of the decedent in the traffic collision on 9/7/24 on Hwy 166 west of Hanson Way in Santa Maria as 21-year-old Jesus Antonio Mata-Garcia from Santa Maria.

The Coroner's Bureau is releasing the identity of the decedent in the traffic collision on 9/8/24 on southbound Hwy 101 north of Santa Maria Way in Santa Maria as 53-year-old Alma Teresa Alcorta Del Lazaro from Santa Maria.

The Coroner's Bureau is releasing the identity of the decedent in the solo motorcycle crash on 9/8/24 on State Route 192 at Casitas Pass Road as 30-year-old Andres Aguilar Armenta of Carpinteria.

The Coroner’s Bureau is releasing the identity of the decedent found in the Santa Barbara Harbor on 9/3/24 as 64-year-old Susan Vaughn from Santa Barbara. Cause and manner of death are pending, however this death does not appear suspicious.

San Marcos High School:  Deputies responded to a report of a juvenile with a gun on campus. SMHS was briefly placed on lockdown. Deputies located the juvenile, determined campus is safe, lockdown was lifted, and investigation is continuing. Call time 10:02

Orcutt Junior High School: Last night, deputies received notification of a threat to campus.  Deputies have not identified an immediate threat to OJHS and will be conducting frequent patrol in an abundance of caution. If you see something, say something.

The Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau is identifying the decedent from the fatal traffic collision on 9/23/24 at 11:50 am on highway 135 north of Foster Road as 79-year-old Sharlene Marie Plunkett from Santa Maria.

Time of call is 8:48. We have two reports of non- life threatening injuries.  One person of interest detained immediately. Scene remains active.  Please continue to avoid the area.

Subject who is detained is an adult male.  Explosion was from an intentionally set improvised explosive device.

This stage of the investigation is slow moving and detectives don’t believe there are any additional outstanding suspects. The bomb team is processing the scene and the suspect is still being interviewed.

A press conference is scheduled for 4 pm today at the upper parking lot of the Santa Maria Library, 421 S. McClelland, Santa Maria, Ca.
