BRIDGE STREET, SAXILBY. I’ve enhanced and colourised this lovely Edwardian photo taken by Edward Parman. The photo was taken on Wednesday, 13th September 1905, as I’ve been able to trace the news headline shown on the newspaper hoarding. - Chris Hewis

St Mary’s Water Conduit, Lincoln High Street. Renovating old photos is becoming much easier with new photo apps. The sepia original dates from 1904, and is one of a series of private photos taken during the Lincoln typhoid epidemic.

Everything comes to those who wait! The History Group mounted a display at Burton Waters at the opening ceremony of the cycle path from Lincoln to Saxilby in July 2011. It was unable to be completed as the partnership ran out of cash. Thank you Phil Ball for the current photo.

The fully refurbished waterfront footbridge was officially opened at a ceremony yesterday evening (25 April). The second photo shows the original opening ceremony by Clark Maurice French and Matthew and Rebecca Squires in March 1988. The old former rail bridge dates from 1883.

Did any of your Saxilby relations take part in the D-Day landings? Both the 2nd & 4th Battalions of the Lincolnshire Regiment were directly involved. We are helping to organise events to commemorate the 80th anniversary. You can comment here or email [email protected]

It’s great to see our archive photos being put to good use, as with this picture of Saxilby postman, Mr Singleton in the early 1900s. We were contacted by Joanna Espin, curator of the Postal Museum, who was putting this talk together, and let her have several Saxilby photos.

The monthly coffee morning with our D-Day commemoration displays in aid of the Royal British Legion proved very popular this morning. You can see our display at St Botolph’s Church on Thursday.

We received a visit yesterday from Australian Sue Stoklmayer and friends. Sue is visiting England on the trail of her ancestors. Her Great, Great, Great Grandfather, James Drury (1799 - 1866) was a successful farmer in the village. His farm was at Oaklands (pictured in 1963).
