17/17 The Holocaust Memorial Bill Select Committee was critical about the process of choosing VTG and the precedent for lifting protections on parks. Not all of the problems with this project come down to the opaque choice of an unsuitable location. But most do.

We are very sad to see Sir Peter Bottomley leaving the Commons. He is a magnificent ally in the campaign to protect Victoria Tower Gardens. Shrewd, measured, indefatigable and an absolute master of parliamentary procedure. We are lucky to have him in our corner.

The Bill to build a Holocaust Memorial by Parliament is being introduced today. Of course (speaking as the son of a refugee from Nazi Germany) it should never be forgotten, but the £100 million (plus) would be better spent on education in schools nationwide than a London monument

Today the Holocaust Memorial Bill passes to debate and second reading in the House of Lords. We are disappointed that the new government has chosen to push ahead with this flawed proposal, and continue to make our case against it. #VictoriaTowerGardens

Does Lord (Eric) Pickles commitment to transparency extend to: - explaining how VTG was chosen for the UK Holocaust Memorial & Learning Centre - publishing a detailed business plan with running costs - being clear about how UKHM&LC security & operations will affect park users & access?

A fair and balanced summary of last night’s House of Lords debate, in which Lord Cameron and other defenders of the current Holocaust Memorial proposal were very much in the minority!

Last night’s House of Lords debate was remarkable. Contributions from 47 speakers, more than 2/3 of whom opposed the Holocaust Memorial Bill, making their arguments with sensitivity, insight and common sense. Well worth a listen (from 16.09)! parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/35…

In the findings of the Grenfell Inquiry there is so much that is familiar to those who have campaigned against the current Holocaust Memorial proposal. Arrogance, disingenuousness, a dismissive attitude to security and safety concerns and a bunker mentality. #EricPickles
