There are 8 species of Pangolin in the world. Four of them live in Africa. All of these species are being poached for their meat and scales.

These species are the Three-Cusped Pangolin (threatened), Giant Ground Pangolin (threatened), Cape Pangolin, and Long-Tailed Pangolin.

Most of the Pangolins that are poached in Africa end up in China and Vietnam.

Pangolins are rarely observed due to their solitary and nocturnal habits. All species are in decline, some more rapidly than others

This means that there are very few statistics showing numbers and densities for Pangolin populations

Pangolins exist in Asia, but they have been nearly hunted into extinction. Now the African Pangolin population is in decline.

Pangolin scales, like Rhinoceros horns, are made of Keratin. Scientists have proven that Keratin does not impact human health in anyway.

However, Pangolins are still being poached for medicinal purposes.

According to Environmental News Network, pangolins were worth around $10 per kilo in the early 1990s and had soared to $175 per kg by 2009
