Today I re-realized for the 5th time that Kiribati, pronounced "Kee-ree-bass", is the local pronunciation of "Gilberts", which is what the English originally called the islands

Just noticed something: At some point (this year?) Google reverted to using Ukrainian Cyrillic for Crimean cities, instead of a hybrid of Russian Cyrillic with Ukrainian transliteration (when viewed from the US)

An interesting note on symbolism - in the current war in Ukraine, as well as the Cold War, both sides agree on the following: - West is blue - Russia is red - our color represents good - their color represents bad
