Good point. Pros and cons to both approaches, but nice to have both options in the armamentarium. Surgeon preference/experience matters too. University of Missouri Surgery Rushabh Dev Micah Ancheta, any thoughts?
S. Arshia Arshad, MD, MS Conversion to open often results in an open subtotal. I’m old enough that we did a decent number of open choles in training, but I rarely convert now, because of the popularity of the subtotal. Converting purely to prevent leaving a small remnant is where you get in trouble.

Let me get this straight… Unplanned need for oxygen was the only pulmonary complication with a difference & surgical approach was not significant on multivariate analysis, yet this is the JAMA Surgery conclusion…🤦🏼♂️
Elliot Servais, MD, FACS JAMA Surgery This is pretty funny from a urology perspective. It's like general and cardiothoracic surgery are going through the same debates we went through 20 years ago. Déjà vu all over again. Just carry on.
