When someone's dying or grieving, getting things in order can be overwhelming, especially if people at the companies you're dealing with don't understand what you're going through. This has to change. Sign Marie Curie's petition to #MakeSadminSimple: campaigns.mariecurie.org.uk/page/152537/ac…

My new piece looks at the hard-to explain variations in train ticket prices in Britain. Why do people travelling similar distances pay massively different amounts? I have crunched a load of data and the results are baffling. (1/7)

My The Guardian story: Social disadvantage now so entrenched in “left behind” areas that a young person growing up in poverty in London has a far better chance of succeeding than a similar child growing up poor in the north-east of England. theguardian.com/society/articl…

A new report by Hospice UK highlights people’s experiences of death, dying and financial hardship. The report evidences the lack of support that is available and the role decision makers and health services can take in ensuring financial support is available at the end of life.

My The Guardian story: More than a million unpaid carers in the UK who look after disabled, frail or ill relatives are living in poverty, new research shows, as pressure mounts on ministers to overhaul carer benefits theguardian.com/society/2024/s…

Girma & Walsh's absences from the #BallonDor shortlist are baffling, but there are two even more glaring omissions: There's a best men's GK & young men's player award, but women get neither of those. Here's my view on an event that is still failing women: theguardian.com/football/2024/…

Wow. Lord Darzi report is crystal clear - *austerity and privatisation* led to the "awful state" of our NHS New government should REINSTATE the NHS as a fully public service and FUND it properly (£40 billion more a year to match other European countries) theguardian.com/society/2024/s…

Lord Darzi's diagnosis of the challenges facing our health and social care system makes for brutal reading. We welcome his recognition that society needs to restart the conversation about how to die well. Read our full statement: ow.ly/UjYq50TlRJw

I fear this part of the Darzi report already risks getting lost - but it is absolutely key. If we want to avoid another lost decade for the NHS, we have to invest in the wider public sector and all the other things that make up the wider determinants of health.

Lord Darzi’s report makes a sobering read, laying bare the challenges staff and patients are experiencing. The full report is well worth the read but if you’re struggling for time, CF have summarised the main points from the 159 page report ⤵️ carnallfarrar.com/darzi-investig…

I cannot even imagine what this must be like to go through. I have recently torn my ACL, although thankfully not ruptured it entirely, and even as a non athlete it is hugely hindering to work and mental + physical health To be on verge of the WSL and this happen must be awful👇🏻

Today, Stephen Lawrence should be celebrating his 50th birthday with loved ones, but he was murdered in an unprovoked racist attack at 18. His tragic murder changed the country, and was core to progressing racial justice in the UK. Rest in power, Stephen. Your legacy lives on.

Buried in this excellent article is a startling statistic - PAs have been disproportionately deployed in socioeconomically deprived areas We talk about tackling health inequalities but the very fabric of the healthcare system is driving inequalities if a less skilled workforce

“Abortion bans will kill women” was never hysterical, hyperbolic, or fear-mongering. It was simply a fact. This is one of the first stories of a death that could have been prevented had the gov’t not gotten between a woman & her doctor - but it will absolutely not be the last.

Today we publish a report I've been working on for some time with reporter and data colleagues here Birmingham Live into child poverty in our city. It's a shocking indictment of how little we collectively value children, and how broken our city is. childpoverty.birminghamlive.co.uk
