Greeted the guests, welcomed them to the Philippines, and on the bus and off we go! Excited for my first trip and adventure in the Philippines with the brilliant James M. Scott. #ww2travel

This monument marks the exact spot where Major General Edward P. King surrendered to the Japanese after the Battle of Bataan, April 9, 1942. More than 75,000 were then forced on the Bataan death march suffering through unbelievable acts of torture, atrocities, and abuse.

This morning we went to the De La Salle University, the location of a horrific massacre in February 1945. It is still a school, and they hosted Q/A with James M. Scott to discuss the Battle of Manila and the work of a researcher and historian. It was such a fun visit! #ww2travel

Two Pacific trips followed by immediate site visit out of country has my sleep schedule so off - plus the jet lag nightmares! I’m very happy to be back home and to be home for a full four weeks! I am not happy, however, to be up before the sun to do a month’s load of laundry.

The scouting trip started with a very moving day in Prague with historians Alex Richie and Keith Lowe and DWW. Here we are in Pinkas Synagogue in the memorial to the murdered Jews of Bohemia and Moravia.

At Heydrich's villa outside Prague with historian Alex Ritchie and Sarah Kirksey It's not open to the public, but the resourceful Alex got us in. Heydrich, architect of the Holocaust, left here on 27 May 1942, to be assassinated by Czech commandos in Operation Anthropoid.
