2022 was the deadliest year on record for drug overdoses across the U.S., and I’m frustrated that my colleagues will not let our city lead in implementing public health policies that save lives and reduce public consumption and dangerous litter in other cities around the world.

I want to recognize Councilmember Kendra Brooks for her leadership and advocacy for the life-saving values of harm reduction. I commend the councilmember for standing up for what she believes in and being a partner in the ongoing effort to educate policymakers and the public on this issue.
