The arrival of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner is a HUGE moment for this country 👑 I tried to capture what this truly unlikely rise to power and leadership means for her, for the rest of us, and for social mobility Me✏️for The Lead | theleaduk.substack.com 👇 thelead.uk/angela-rayner-…

Celebrating the achievements of charities helping people, improving lives and communities and bringing dignity and joy - lovely to be at The Charity Awards

Only 2 awards in & I’m already in tears The Charity Awards - recognising LUNG shining a light on the humanity behind the fact of a prison suicide every three days in England & Wales

Absolutely delighted for Paul Farmer to see his outstanding achievement recognised The Charity Awards. His integrity and determination to make change have been extraordinary, his wit and warmth entirely ordinary ❤️

These figures are devastating. The attainment gap is at its widest since 2012 - by the age of 16 the gap is up to two years worth of learning. We can’t secure growth, increase productivity or build a stronger society while so many young people are left behind.

Sarah Atkinson (@sarahhatstand) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Without your support we can’t make it happen. Please help us unlock the potential of young people who will otherwise be overlooked 👇

Young people deserve a system that lets them thrive, regardless of background. It's fair, and helps the economy by making the most of everyone's potential. We can't afford to hold another generation of talent back. The government must close the attainment gap. Education Policy Institute

Now we wait for Results Day…🤞 Another university visit last week for our students, this time: The University of Durham 🎓 Students who are the first in their family to go to university must know they are welcome at the UK’s prestigious institutions.

I’m not convinced by the policy proposals! But so much social mobility insight from Amol Rajan & Frank Skinner: - regional & accent barriers - assumptions w/c people don’t like opera or poetry - background stays with you even when you’ve achieved success in later life

My The Guardian quote on England's school curriculum review. We must recognise countless examples of working-class achievements in society. Learners from all backgrounds deserve to feel connected in the curriculum. If it fails to resonate, they are alienated. theguardian.com/education/arti…

You could argue this is just a return to 2019 levels, now the Covid adjustments have ended. That normalises the fact that children growing up in poverty have worse outcomes than their peers, regardless of their potential. Never accept that. Never stop working to change it.

"I was helped by a charity called the Social Mobility Foundation, and they helped to get me my first couple of work experiences. [...] It was completely invaluable." 💬 Love this from Jeremiah! And great work on the Open Desk Programme 🙌 musically.com/2024/08/16/jer…

Spot on James Graham - the TV industry has a class problem. There are good ways to define socioeconomic background and we have the tools to address the issue, like our Social Mobility Employer Index. What's needed now is action from the sector. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
