The UK hospice sector is facing a £77m deficit in 2023 - 2024.

We're calling for an urgent review of hospice funding to keep vital services running.

MPs will debate this critical issue in Westminster tonight.

I fundamentally disagree that the training selection process selects leaders of the future. It selects people who have no geographical ties, who jump through the right hoops, and happen to apply at the right moment for there to be jobs in their specialty (esp small specialties)

Urgh. Broke tooth this am. Very glad to have an NHS dentist who saw me late morning. Less impressed at it having to come out, but no option. Maybe explains why I’ve felt low on steroids this week though 🙄

Call today to say there is no Hyoscine butylbromide for my palliative patients, almost none in the hospital. Rapid teaching needed tomorrow for the wards on switch to glycopyrronium 🙄
At least it isn’t Friday evening.

Sat in clinical investigations for my synacthen test, I’m reflecting on the difference from 5 y ago when I was here at least fortnightly for omalizumab, how much better it is to do that at home, and how much better my asthma is. It’s still a challenge but the improvement is huge.

Scottish health professionals and their professional bodies 'would be wise to insist on immediate clarification regarding the status of section 18, and ask when professionals will have a definitive answer about whether that provision will be effective.' scottishlegal.com/articles/mary-…

I wasn’t paying Po enough attention last night - and certainly wasn’t going to be eating dinner , she was in my mouth!

Having had norovirus last weekend, unable to take my steroids and ending up in hospital, I’ve been reluctant to do my chest clearance and make myself gag. Paying for it this weekend 🙄

Ended up first on call for hospice tonight- someone off sick. Colleague did until 10pm, texted me to say all settled, he hoped I had a quiet night

😳Q

10mins later and I’ve already had a call 😂

Back at work yesterday after annual leave. Really hammered home how Monday to Friday the NHS is. Scary when you have a chronic illness.

Sending love to my spinal cord injured friends today after the recent media hell fire.
No matter what society tells us, there IS life after SCI, and it can be a bloody good one!

Feeling cross with myself. PTSD triggered at work yesterday, didn’t sleep until 3am, so didn’t get up and run this morning which I know is good for my mental (and physical) health.
I know I can’t stop the triggers, I just wish I could be more disciplined in my response

It’s always the point when I’m off guard, the patient I don’t expect it to be, that triggers a memory of one of my scariest moments- this time being tipped back while struggling to breathe, to get me in an ambulance, not long before my first periarrest.
Not sure I’ll sleep 2nite

Having a chronic health condition makes a huge psychological impact- the restriction, isolation & worry; the impact on work, relationships & sense of self. As well as having to rely on services.

Making space to talk about these things matters & should be a standard part of care.
