AI hype is on full swing, to a large extent, because of language models. But as a writer, I am not totally convinced about the “productivity boosts.” You see, writing fulfills a dual purpose. On the one hand, we write to communicate. But on the other hand…. /1

SHRUG 2.0 is a go! Check out Paul's excellent (as always) thread on our ongoing efforts to democratize access to India's data for research, policy, etc. As always, contributions and feedback welcome!

🚨The long-awaited SHRUG v2 is here! An amazing culmination of several years of hard work by our team Development Data Lab. Tons of new, exciting, and high-res open-source administrative and geospatial data for social science researchers. Send us your feedback; more to come soon!

🚨Please stop calling this brain drain. When there are high overseas returns to education, *more people get educated*. Think about all the folk working their asses off for this exam, and then *staying in India*. High returns for migrants are good, they build human capital. 1/N

This fantastic investigation needs to be read very carefully. More researchers need to publicly release replication data and easily understandable code.

This is a really important paper. These findings are potentially relevant in the Indian context as well, where anonymized Population Census microdata has been unavailable to researchers and has potential to unlock new dimensions for policy-relevant research.

Legend. Was watching his games very closely all throughout the Candidates; his composure throughout the tournament was incredible, even after that heartbreaking loss to Firouzja in Rd 7. The future is well and truly here.
