Not one of our SA political parties are serious about life. This VAT thing is distracting. Roads, hospitals, schools, need to be fixed. Service delivery needs to be prioritised. So much noise but all these leaders go back to cosy homes far from suffering and fear. #VATIncrease

I’m not Catholic or even especially religious but it’s really lovely to hear people in Rome speak so highly of Pope Francis and his work with the poor and for human rights. And they are all wishing for another person of humility and kindness and peace.

I asked ChatGPT to help me understand why some people behave as they do. The answers were oddly enlightening. Not sure what that means for human engagement but there you have it. A new dawn is here.

Anyone counting Cyril Ramaphosa out today doesn’t know that the ANC gifts its leaders one super power - the ability to manoeuvre. Trump’s in an odd position. He’s friends with South Africa’s friend (Russia), disagrees abt Israel, needs a strong African partner + hates BRICS.

Trump’s preoccupation with white South Africa shames him, and is a poor representation of a unique, diverse multi-cultural South Africa that I wish he’d actually visit.

No other President has the humility of Ramaphosa. I am so proud of him. He held the line, put the ego away and just focused on the big picture.

I’m confused a bit. A pre-emptive strike on a sovereign nation is surely still an act of war? Otherwise every country can strike at any other country should they feel even marginally threatened? Who decides when a threat is significant enough to warrant a pre-emptive strike? 🧐

Also, how is it decided which countries can have nuclear weapons? Does a country need to be a certain size to get a weapon? Does it need to have a population of a certain size to Qualify? A GDP of a certain threshold?

Guys, a question: does Pres Trump think he’s on some global edition of The Apprentice? Like he can impose his will on foreign govts for, like, ratings? This is real life, with real stakes, that are really high. The US is legit doing government by tweet. I may never recover.
