Standing room only at first #ASH24 myeloma session. Striking presentations on prognostication - how do we better predict outcomes, esp for patients at risk of earlier relapse?

Thank you to our amazing patients with MGUS and smouldering myeloma who completed the unmet needs survey. We shared your perspectives with an international community at #ASH2024, highlighting the psychological impact of diagnosis, monitoring & the potential for future treatments.

Interesting study at #ASH2024 on the use of opioids to manage pain in #myeloma. Despite the prevalence of pain in myeloma, 40% of patients rarely/never discussed pain with their doctor. 30% felt pain was not controlled effectively and 25% understated their pain in clinic.

A new study on the views of people with #myeloma on treatment free periods #ASH2024 Important in the context of the bispecifics and CAR-T where the latter offers treatment FPs. 49% felt treatment free periods were essential, but risks were viewed as important in this context.

Heartbreaking to know we have recorded the highest number of people living with #cancer in the UK ever. It means charities like Myeloma UK are needed more than ever. We will continue to work to improve #diagnosis, #treatment and #care. Together we are the cure.

How did I miss this post highlighting our work in Myeloma UK last year on imaging at diagnosis of #myeloma in the UK. It’s very important people with myeloma are diagnosed effectively. Our research showcases inequalities and use of imaging that is not recommended in the UK.

#Myeloma has one of the longest delays to diagnosis. During this years #Myelomaawarenessweek Myeloma UK are raising awareness of the symptoms of #myeloma. Help us improve time to diagnosis by downloading our symptom tracker and take a copy to your GP. It’s as simple as that.
