Don’t believe in voting on single issues; Christian ethics apply to a range of issues. That said want to be informed of the parties’ position on abortion. Saddened that all the parties have bought into the lie that the unborn are ‘non-persons’. righttolife.org.uk/news/labour-pl…

Enjoyable evening with Sheffield Uni CU - calling them to have the imagination that 'the difficult life is the blessed life'; as it's a great occasion for us to 'know Christ' and participate 'in his sufferings' (Eph 3:10). Hoping 'losing their lives' for Christ was attractive to them.

"Stephen's life had not been stolen from him... Like James Calvert, missionary to the cannibals of Fiji, Stephen had lived by these words: 'We died before we came here.' Stephen had handed over his life a long time ago. No bullet could have taken it from him." Emily Foreman

One impact of sin is a profound lack of imagination. We do not know what is good for us; having no idea how satisfying life can be in the unconventional world of disability. Why do we choose a simpler, grey life over one so interesting & colourful? thetimes.co.uk/article/new-te…

Probably reading too much into this. Subtly suggests if you don't agree with 10 points given, you're in danger of dividing the nation. Just getting used to the idea - and not totally averse to it - I might be a traitor to my own people. #socialpariah bbc.co.uk/news/uk-497621…

These folks give themselves wholeheartedly to loving Jesus, his people & those yet to hear. They do so day in, day out in the life of our church family ⁦@tch_union⁩ A happy time enjoying each other’s company tonight. These are the people I love; among them I find rest.

“It is hard to avoid the sense that there is a wider crisis of meaning in our late modern society, and that the UK is particularly exposed.” Come on Church, let’s get to it! unherd.com/2019/12/why-do…

Thankful for fellow labourers in the TCH family (⁦@TCH_Sheffield⁩ ⁦@TCH_PeakTrinity⁩). Saying goodbye to Nat who’s served us so diligently in administration; working quietly in the background to ensure we’re all compliant & running smoothly. Praise God for Admins!

True believers in Christ need not fear death; we will enjoy a sweet union with our Saviour that surpasses all sorrow. Want to pray those facing this kind of persecution will know comfort & assurance in the face of fear; and would stay true to the end. bbc.co.uk/news/world-afr…

Qassem Soleimani now has no opportunity to repent, know Christ & experience the grace of God. Let's pray for those in the Iranian government to have that opportunity; for Iranian brothers & sisters to speak of the Prince of Peace who brings lasting peace. bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid…

Teaching on Luke 14 with reference to our values: "We challenge one another to be sacrificial, servant-hearted, risk-taking & flexible because the gospel has priority." Jesus says: "Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples." Pretty clear.

Just had a complete stranger, with tears in his eyes, stroke my beard and kiss my head. My 6 y/o and I dropped off some flapjack to a Yemeni man my mum-in-law met on Christmas Day. He was overwhelmed with thankfulness. Sometimes it’s really not that hard to reach out to others.

“The love of Christ is ‘broad’ enough to encompass all mankind, ‘long’ enough to last for eternity, ‘deep’ enough to reach the most degraded sinner, and ‘high’ enough to exalt him to heaven.” Stott on Ephesians 3:18

Maybe I'm alone, but I find myself vacillating between "hiding out" in a Wendell Berryesque narrative of "small things are always better" or a narcissistic "Great things are all that matter." And, I think an identity grounded in Christ is just more agile and pliable than that.

What do we do about our burdens — at the beginning and end of life? Do we seek to remove them or to share them? To lift up choice or love? Jesus shows the better way. (AI generated video)
