I am reminded of Christopher Hitchens' memorable phase "a saturnalia of sycophancy" when I see former self-described Indian liberals cravenly genuflecting in front of the Modi sarkar

This is beyond idiocy to encourage rabble rousers and anti-historians like Malhotra into the precincts of an institute of learning. Sad.

What's Aurangzeb's relationship with India? Seriously. He was a Mughal ruler born in India, ruled India and died In India. Or they think he descended from Mars or what. FYI. Aurangzeb's grandmother was a Rajput Hindu.

Utter nonsense and in line with earlier colonial projections of "martial races" and "non-martial" people. Just check the line-up of those who joined the 1857 rebellion versus those who sided with the colonial overlords; you will then understand how shallow your projection is!

Stuck in a rut of inferiority due to colonial suppression? Actually due to the dumbing down of discourse during the counter-reformation movements and imposition of abridged forms of Vedic myths and shibboleths in the first millennium CE when Vedic sacrificial ideas proved futile

Why do we still subjugate ourselves to this slavish adherence to a dead language which was used for centuries to obfuscate and hide matters rather than help in communication. Sanskrit was always a source of "hidden" power ( actually obscurement of ignorance) by elites.

Sampath Pillai (@sampathpillai) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Dark history of secularism in India ? Or do you refer to the "dark roots" of the Vedic varna system of our civilisation? No amount of breezy articulation by J Sai Deepak in defence of our "ancient" culture and recourse to outdated "truisms" from Sanskrit can justify.

So much ado about Savarkar and also about Vikram Sampath's two-part biography of the man. For those disinclined to plough through the biography as well as for anyone interested anyway, here's a review in about a dozen pages. 1drv.ms/f/s!At4Zvv6RO3…

And when are we going to get the results of the Rakhigarhi ancient DNA test results? Why on earth is that taking such a while to see the light of public day ?

I’ve read Tony Joseph’s book. Not only is it thoroughly researched, he’s careful to make a distinction between arguments backed by hard evidence vs speculation. Even in the parts that are speculative (the one on endogamy towards the end, for instance) he makes sound arguments.

Through his book Tony Joseph exhibits scientific rigour, discernment, and intellectual humility. He’s put his work out there for scrutiny by anyone. That’s science. That’s integrity. Can’t say the same about the random non specific accusations heaped by Mr. Pai and his ilk.
