James in Year 7 puts into words how we all feel in this weather: Hot! Excruciatingly, ferociously hot! Every part of me prickled with the scorching heat emanating from the ground. Finally, I made it to the shade. #NationalWritingDay #247 #NationalWritingDay2020

Year 9 pupils have been spitting the bars to Shakespeare making up rap songs about Macbeth. Impressed with all the results and hopefully it's helped them to see Shakespeare can be accessible for teens too. #educatingbradford #rsc

Some year 7's wrote an amazing poem in their online class: The Wait His emotional dark, brown eyes glisten in the light the light that shines down on him And illuminates his navy blue top which looks like the sky on a depressing Autumn night

Arabella has used some lovely verbs: 'By now, we have got our bags stuffed in the car; everything crammed into every nook and cranny. As I clamber into the car my excitement levels have settled (only a bit) and I get ready for the four-and-a-half-hour journey to Aldeburgh...'

A year 11 pupil's gratitude poem from today: The old Jungle Book films, rain at night when you’re up at 1am and can’t sleep. Sweet chilli lamb stir fry.

Year 7 pupils enjoy: - Cosying up in front of the fire and watching Harry Potter - 'When your phone rings and you realise that someone does want to listen to your voice' (😢) - The sound of your mum shouting "Teas ready"

Adam in Year 11 is trying to win his teacher's favour: When snow is untouched, flat and covering everything it’s so satisfying. And Its brilliant when Ms Chillington or Mrs Ide teaches us English!

We love how Lucy created this mindmap to plan out her creative writing. We always advise pupils to plan their writing first as the end result will be so much more considered and polished.

Adam's (Y8) poem has got us craving the summer...'Going on bike rides on a hot summer day with my family up the side of the nearby canal, Eating ice cream on a hot day outside for dessert, Feeling and hearing the satisfying pop of bubble wrap, Re-watching my favourite tv show.'

Imogen in Y7 is also craving the summer: 'Icy fresh water on a warm day, the scent of sun cream, the sound of polystyrene crunching, watching every single marvel film and drinking a fresh summer fruits smoothie.' Sounds perfect right?

Susannah Y11: 'Streams of rainwater; suffocating the prisoner momentarily, In between breaths of dirt and dust, Coming out of the train tunnel composed of skin, A peaceful way to parade pleasure, With a smile twice the size of a pebble. And it is the same grin that crops up.'

It's all about the simple pleasures: 'Expressing myself through song, When I’m hungry and I feel the delicious saltiness ooze around my mouth of melted cheese. Picking up a book and getting completely lost in the story to the point where I feel as if I’m the character.'

Another excert: 'Don’t you love it when you’re sat at the window reading, rain hits down outside in the dark abyss with faint lights of civilisation - close yet so far. Don’t you love it when you get out the shower, its hot your skin is red but now your skin shivering suitably.'

Year 7 have their reading levels in the backs of their planner now. We're making sure they chose books which will suitably challenge them for their reading lesson. #readinglife #readinglevels
