Ableist language is so insidious we’re unaware we use it & its impact. Calling fundraisers “Walk” or “Run” is #ableist. #TerryFox wasn’t just raising awareness about cancer. "She can't get inside the building because of her wheelchair." No. She can't get inside because the building is not accessible. The building has a barrier that does not let her in. The wheelchair is not the problem; the building's lack of access is the problem. Words matter.

We took a few days to get our exploding pumpkin to burst. Of course, as soon as the Ss left for the day, it popped! 241 elastics but lots of fun!

Human needs. Not special. Human needs. If someone needs assistance to use the washroom, that’s a human need. If someone needs to use technology to access learning, thats a human need. There is nothing “special” about “special education”, it’s simply education.

We use a public washroom. A similar sign as below on the door. My kid asks “How is this accessible if there’s no button to help with the door?” Don’t let the accessible sign fool you. It’s not always accessible. #disabilityawearness #accessibility
