Eccles by-election result: LAB: 951 CON: 426 GRN: 261 LDEM: 142 TUSC: 76 Turnout: 1,872 (16.46%) LABOUR HOLD This marks the first time since the ward's creation in 1973 that turnout in Eccles has fallen below 20%.

Please note that elections due in Salford this year have been cancelled. There would have been Greater Manchester County Council elections this year, but these were cancelled by then Conservative Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, when she abolished the GMC.

John Warmisham (Pendleton & Charlestown) has left the Labour Party to sit as an Independent Socialist councillor following recent policy decisions taken by the national government. He has served as a Labour councillor in Salford since 1991 but does not intend to seek re-election.

Cllr. Bill Hinds (Swinton & Wardley), former Council Leader and later finance chief, has resigned from the Labour Party to sit as an Independent Democratic Socialist, citing the government’s response to the war in Gaza. He follows John Warmisham, who resigned earlier this year.

Roseanna Wain, who has served as a Labour councillor for Blackfriars & Trinity since 2021, has resigned. Her term was due to end in May, so the seat will remain vacant until the ordinary elections at that time.
