Dear actin friends, Let me entertain you by describing a collaborative study published earlier today in Science Advances that challenges one of the actin cytoskeleton paradigms – in the cell, actin filaments grow at the barbed (plus) end, but not at the pointed (minus) end.

We had a blast of a time with Gabe Lander over two days. First with his excellent talk on the immense power of cryoEM. And then a free-flowing discussion with students on questions in structural biology to life in academia.

It was exciting to finally have Gabe Lander visit us at CCMB and The Chowdhury Lab. Great to catch up with him after a long time. Gave an awesome seminar and spent a lot of time interacting with students and colleagues. Looking forward to many more visits in future.

8th October marks the birth anniversary of G.N. Ramachandran who solved the 1st collagen structure. Most famous for the Ramachandran plot – helping us have better protein models. Collagen is found in our connective tissues & has poly-P helical structure (pdbe.org/4oy5).
