Tamils have long called for international supervision and forensic expertise to investigate Sri Lanka’s many mass graves. This is a low-hanging fruit the Sri Lankan government could act on if it truly cared about the demands of truth and justice for victims and survivors.

After 16 years, what has the gov done to build even an iota of confidence in their investigations? About time that Amnesty and co take the lead from the Tamil families who have been demanding for international involvement.

An excavation of a mass grave should not be instrumentalised by the gov to curry favour and “build confidence”. If they want to build confidence, allow international involvement.

"Entrenched identity politics" - as if they'd ever say that about Ukraine. Tamils are entitled to their national identity, if that's what they desire, and in the last 16 years they have reaffirmed again and again that that's the case.

Mario Arulthas (@marioarul) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Govt's Sri Lankan identity, rooted in a Sinhala-Buddhist ethnocracy, is taken for granted, while Tamil resistance to supremacy is problematised.
