We here at Sagamore Hill would like to wish a happy Birthday to a lesser-known Roosevelt, Cornelius Van Schaack Roosevelt (also known as C.V.S. Roosevelt). Cornelius was grandfather to President Theodore Roosevelt.

Happy National Park Week! To kick off National Park Week, we would like to celebrate Junior Rangers! Almost every National Park has a Junior Ranger program, and it’s a great opportunity to learn more about the site you are visiting and to have fun doing it.

The salt marsh at the bottom of our Nature Trail is one of the most beautiful places at Sagamore Hill! Home to a variety of aquatic animal life, at low tide a multitude of crustaceans can be seen, such as mussels, fiddler crabs and the oysters that give Oyster Bay its name!

When taking a tour of Theodore Roosevelt’s home, we want you to feel like you are stepping back in time. With that said, the inside of the house is not air conditioned and can be very warm. We would like to remind tour goers to dress accordingly and hydrate!

Once Upon a Farm... Theodore Roosevelt kept a working farm at Sagamore Hill, raising crops and husbanding animals for the Roosevelt family’s pantry. This picture shows some of the Roosevelt cows outside on a trail. They only kept around six cows.
