South Asian women are seen as the keepers of the izzat and family honour, and so engaging in behaviours such as substance use goes against familial and societal expectations of them. Women are often left carrying great shame and secrecy regarding their substance use.

Why do U think people from South Asian communities choose not to work in the substance use field 🤔 The last 17 years I've worked in drug & alcohol services & met less than 10 working. Why? It was same when i was in addiction. I was the only 'brown' girl on brown! Why?

We will be attending this. It will be interesting to see if part of the findings are that the perpertraers were in addictions/hidden addictions and families enabled their behaviours. 👇🏽
