Last year, McClatchy Media announced that it would join the rest of the nation and make Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, a company-wide paid holiday. But this news came with a caveat for One Herald Guild 🏝 members 🧵

The latest shameful decision by McClatchy Media. It is withholding Juneteenth as a holiday from employees in a cheap bargaining tactic. Instead of honoring the end of slavery, it is punishing its own employees for exercising their rights. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues.
