Research published in Nature Communications presents global maps of local species richness for vascular plants in order to provide a nuanced understanding of plant diversity hotspots and improve predictions of global change effects on biodiversity. go.nature.com/3ARGWeG

A new study incl. authors from Botanický ústav AV ČR/Institute of Botany CAS shows that the Eastern European forest-steppe region is home to a similar number of plant species as the Amazon rainforest, which only becomes apparent when species are counted in smaller sampling areas. nature.com/articles/s4146… Nature Communications

Here is a comment about our sPlot - iDiv paper with Francesco Sabatini: Species richness of plant communities: the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer? ecoevocommunity.nature.com/posts/species-… #behindthepaper

‼️JOB ALERT‼️ Research Officer (m/f/d) for the project "MultiTroph Data management" (Z2), @GeobotanyHalle, Universität Halle (inaktiv) | Halle (Saale), Germany | Closing date: 15 October 2022 verwaltung.uni-halle.de/dezern3/Aussch…

There is a #paradox in #biodiversity conservation: species disappear regionally, but local species richness is stable Helge Bruelheide iDiv Biodiversity Research Universität Halle (inaktiv) and colleagues tackle this problem for Germany. Hot of the press: nature.com/articles/s4158…

I am excited to share our new NatureEcoEvo paper that uses iNaturalist citizen science observations to map plant functional traits on a global scale! 🔗nature.com/articles/s4155… #iNatTraitMaps #CitizenScience #firstpaper @Rsc4Earth UNIVERSITÄT LEIPZIG NFDI4Biodiversity iDiv Biodiversity Research 🧵1/8

I am very happy for Sophie Wolf! Her first PhD paper was just published NatureEcoEvo where she combined iNaturalist #CitizenScience data and try-db.org to generate global maps of #planttraits and compared them to sPlot - iDiv nature.com/articles/s4155… 🧵1/7

Plant functional traits should be tightly linked to climate, but this was elusive to prove at the global scale. Stephan Kambach shows why: The relationship is habitat specific 🔥Hot off the press🔥nature.com/articles/s4146… sPlot - iDiv

Nice to see Thore Engel’s paper published! It used the sPlot - iDiv global vegetation plot data base and started during Thore’s MSc at the Graduate Program in Ecology, UFRGS, Porto Alegre. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ge…

Beautiful use of the sPlot - iDiv vegetation database ⬇️ Vulnerability to embolism #P50 & root length in woody plants are independent or othogonal traits selected by aridity, seasonality & water table depth 🚨 Just published New Phytologist 🤩 📖 ow.ly/8rUp50PP66t

In the 1970s, a pioneer team of Argentinian, Chilean and UK biogeographers studied the vegetation of Patagonia along a 450 km transect. Now the data are available #OA and published in @JVSAVS, thanks to a collaboration with sPlot - iDiv CONICET Dialoga onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jv…
