It’s been a heck of a run throughout my lifetime watching incredible OHL hockey. The dominoes continue to fall on NCAA recruitments and it’s not done. The league will water down significantly from now on. Unfortunately, the OHL will NEVER be the same as a result of all this.

Here’s my understanding of how Canadian players make their NIL money with NCAA. With the way visas work, they cannot earn while in the States. The way around it is to do the work while in Canada. Work includes social media posts. Heard a player got $5k for posting his commitment.

It appears the OHL will become a younger league as a result of the NCAA rule changes and will be the prime development league for 16–18 year olds. The OHL should increase the amount of full–time cards for 16 year old players. Four cards per team will probably not be enough now.

The OHL needs to be proactive. Switch to WHL style and draft from the U15/bantam age group. Get elite players in the league earlier, both from Ontario and the States. Open up six cards per team for full–time 16 year olds.

Top Scorers from the Draftday Hockey All-Star Prospects Showcase in Toronto. Kyler Lauder from 2010 ETA and Dacey Dupuis from 2010 Northern Ontario led the way with 12 points each. Congrats to 2010 Alliance West on winning the tourney! #OHLDraft #2026OHLDraft

The Barrie Colts put a team in the TEP Tournament and took down the Prospects Division this past weekend. Leading the way were Arvin Jaswal, Ben Bowen, Eamon Edgar, Cole Emerton, Owen Miehm, Christian Armstrong, Aiden Bianchini, Chase Martin, and USNTDP commit Cannon Thibodeau.

Thank you to Mitch Marner for nine memorable years with the Toronto Maple Leafs! I’ll forever be grateful for the heart and determination you showed on the ice. One of the best to ever wear the blue and white; truly a unique 1 of 1 talent. All the best in Vegas! Mitchell Marner

To the Leafs fans calling Mitch Marner a traitor, remember his game winning goal in game two against the Panthers that put the Leafs up 2-0 in the series. He did his best. As Marner said on IG: “I gave everything I had, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.” Respect that and move on.

Highlights of Russian left winger Andrei Gudin (First Round Pick #47 overall for the Barrie Colts in the 2025 CHL Import Draft). Andrei played last season with the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets 16U program and posted 61 goals + 54 assists for 115 points in 56 games with a +48 +/- rating.

Porter Martone ➡️ Michigan State Jack Ivankovic ➡️ Michigan Saw it coming a month and a half ago, but it still hurts to see these moves come to fruition. Saw lots of Steelheads games last year and both these guys were fun to watch. Gonna miss having them in the O.

Hearing that NCAA is NOT an option for Kashawn Aitcheson. Sounds like he will be back in Barrie this year. Also, it’s looking like Riley Patterson will be traded. Neither scenario is guaranteed, but this is what I’m hearing.
