The scrub is inhabited by a healthy number of Abrolhos Dwarf Bearded Dragons (Pogona minor minima), along with a number of other reptile species.

My brother was anti-vaccine. He died on August 31st and his wife passed yesterday, both from COVID. Please vaccinate; please wear a mask.

The adventure begins. Today marks the start of our field season surveying the endangered Abrolhos Painted Button-quail. First stop North Island. Conditions clear and still for a safe flight across a sparkling Indian Ocean.

A rare new gin today. Abrolhos Gin in celebration of @RyanCarterECU ongoing masters on the Abrolhos Painted Button-quail. Using saltbush and samphire found on the islands and as blue as the surrounding waters. With a super rare home-grown sudachi lemon for added flavour.

Fantastic news to wake up to. @RyanCarterECU a @WildlifeLab masters student got his first ever paper accepted - and in an excellent journal. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the success of our students. Watch this space for future details on a sad but important study.

The Abrolhos Painted Button-quail has been federally up-listed from vulnerable to endangered, partly as a result of work we did that showed the extinction of one of the three island populations. We must avert future extinctions. Pic: our camera trap link.springer.com/article/10.100…

An honour to be able to attend the graduation of the talented @RyanCarterECU from the @WildlifeLab recently. Ryan did an amazing masters thesis on the threatened Abrolhos Painted Button-quail and is already applying his ecological skills in industry. Well done Ryan.
