Getting underway with our second wetland of the year as part of the Wilder Lugg Project!💧 These wetlands are designed to hold and slow water during heavy rainfall, reducing flood risk while creating rich wildlife habitat that fits within working farm landscapes!

Recently while visiting a farm, Caroline, one of our Land and Farm Advisors, came across a plant she didn’t recognise at first. After a closer look and finding one nearby that was flowering, she identified it as a Broad-leaved Helleborine, which is a species of orchid!

A new solar water pump was installed along a section of riparian floodplain recently. Parts of the river Lugg has run dry for long periods, so the pump was placed next to a sediment trap meaning water is now available for livestock when it’s not flowing in the main river channel.

The Painted Lady Butterfly (Vanessa cardui) is one of our long distance migrants! Each year it travels north from North Africa, the Middle East, and central Asia, sometimes arriving in Britain and Ireland in huge numbers. Have you spotted a Painted Lady this year? 🌼🦋

Shining a light on Devil’s-bit Scabious 💜 Not only does it attract bees, butterflies, and other vital pollinators, it’s also the larval food plant for the declining Marsh Fritillary butterfly 🦋 You can spot it at our nature reserves, including Gilfach and Burfa Bog
