Our 🇬🇧 beef 🐄 carbon footprint is 60% lower per kg of beef than world average. As 65% of our land is only good enough to grow grass, rearing livestock is the best way for us to produce good, healthy food. Listen 👇 bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

OSR Update Nice crop of DK Exstar from @dekalb_osr. Vol Barely been left a little longer than normally would like but was left as away to disguise the OSR from CSFB. Not much activity so far and osr is away 😁 Will spray out tonight once temps come down. @Hutchinsons_Ag

Turnip Yellows Virus in OSR Great to see varieties like LGSeedsUK Amerone (pictured) coming along with TuYV resistance. This combined with its vigour in autumn helping us get away from reliance on insecticides. All this from a conventional variety too 👌 @Hutchinsons_Ag

Would you know how to recognise some of the classic symptoms of a high magnesium soil? Ca:Mg can have a huge impact on the work-ability of a soil. If in doubt, it is always best to get your soil tested #soilhealth #healthysoils

Can you guess which soil has been cultivated? Cultivations are a brilliant tool, when matched to the soil needs. When used incorrectly they can be an expensive mistake! #soilhealth #soilstructure #cultivations

Some fungi are good and some fungi are bad. For #UkFungusDay listen to Rothamsted PhD student, Tania Chancellor, talk about her research into Take-All Disease which attacks wheat-roots, and how we might be able to fight fungi with fungi. youtu.be/VzteawIX1CE UK Fungus Day

Aphid update The warmer dry spell has brought the aphids out into crops. Finding in Most crops now from 1-3 leaf. Where they are found Crops will be priority for treatment. Once sprayed I will be using OmniaPrecision (redirect page) aphid tool to monitor thresholds. @Hutchinsons_Ag

Catch Cropping This field was a 1 year ley. Silaged in the spring/summer and then a catch crop planted into aftermath. in early Oct we sprayed off and drilled wheat into the still green catch crop. Wheat emerging & a nice mulch to hopefully keep weeds out. @Hutchinsons_Ag

Companion Crop update Clover companion in the OSR thriving. Loads of nodules 👌 Carefully selected herbicide regime in autumn to keep it alive was worth it. @Hutchinsons_Ag

OSR Update from Herefordshire. Mid Sept drilled to try and avoid worst of flea beetle. Deep tap root helping to structure the clay soil on this farm. Rotational manure and Fibrophos as nutritional base doing the hard work. Charlock control has been good, helped by the frost.

More OSR Mzuri drilled with Crystal Green starter fertiliser placed at drilling. Not salt based & is root activated not just water soluble. Much kinder to soil than traditional starter fertilisers if you need P at drilling. Sourced from waste water extraction.
