It's been a busy field work week here at RUCOOL. We've been working on upgrading our MARACOOS HF-Radar systems used for US Coast Guard Search & Rescue, deploying a glider in Martinique that is looking for whales, and had multiple glider recoveries in NJ. @rutgerssebs @sebsrutgers

Nicole & Lori recovered our gliders RU39 & RU40 today, that were funded by the #NJDEP & #NJBPU Research Monitoring Initiative. The gliders recorded data on temperature, salinity, depth, oxygen, phytoplankton, pH, fish/mammal tags and recorded whale songs. LOTS of data to analyze!

Congratulations to Joe Gradone who successfully completed his PhD!!! Joe provided insights in the transport and heat budget for the Caribbean, acritical but under sampled ocean region that is the fuel engine for hurricanes in the western Atlantic. Great work Dr. Gradone.

It was a beautiful day for the glider team to recover not 1, but 4 gliders yesterday! Thx to Dave, Nicole, Jess, Brian & Chip all four were recovered. Grad students Becca & Sam joined us. RU40, RU32, RU39 and maracoos01 had a few friends hanging on when we pulled them out.

Glider MARACOOS04 was recovered today by Jess and Capt. Chip off of Tuckerton, NJ. NYSERDA funded this deployment researching the physics and biology of the ocean in offshore wind lease areas, as well as listening for whales. There were PLENTY of fin and humpback whales detected!

Ethan was at the @maracoos_ioos funded #CODAR HF-Radar site in Cape May today. The ice on Delaware bay has melted a bit in the last few days. It's hard to measure surface currents when the water is covered with ice! @rutgersresearch @rutgerssebs
