I'm glad The Scotsman was able to beat off absurd complaints from Donald Trump's golf resort company after we reported - accurately - on food hygiene standards at one of its venues.

Contempt hearing for Trump this morning was embarrassing for the former president and didn't seem to go very well for him. motherjones.com/politics/2024/…

Donald Trump sitting in jail because he can't keep his mouth shut? It could happen.

Trump held in contempt for violating the gag order. The fine was a paltry $9k. The judge acknowledged this isn't much, and said he could imagine fining Trump up to $150k/violation. But law won't allow it. So, judge says, jail is the next thing to consider motherjones.com/politics/2024/…

Trump just entered the courtroom as his hush money trial is set to resume shortly. motherjones.com/politics/2024/… David Pecker, whose testimony seemed pretty damaging to Trump, will be back under cross-examination today.

Pecker testified today that Trump in June '16 told him that Karen McDougal 'is a nice girl' and sought Pecker's advice on buying her story to stop publication of her claim re an affair. Trump now denies he had sex with McDougal. He apparently he didn't tell Pecker that though

Once again, Trump is about to find out just how far he can push a judge.

This morning, Judge Merchan raked the former president over the coals for allegedly “willfully and flagrantly” violating a gag order the judge imposed on March 26. motherjones.com/politics/2024/…

NEW: College football is great for boosting a school's student body, right?

Wrong, says a comprehensive new study.

It looked at enrollment trends of 36 schools that added football since 2002. My latest for Sportico:

When WAMU laid off 16 people and closed DCist, the reasoning given was “content strategy word salad,' per one staffer.

Andrew Beaujon cuts through the jargon and nonsense with a deeply reported, excellent look at what actually happened: washingtonian.com/2024/04/19/why…
