When J.M.W.Turner met in Italy a young Russian artist called Ivan Aivazovsky (born #OnThisDay in 1817) he was so impressed that he wrote a poem for him in 1842. Aivazovsky would become one of the world’s most celebrated seascape painters ever.

Today is #Hiroshima80 . Manhattan Project chief of security was Boris Pash - Russian immigrant who had served with White Navy during Civil War and translated talks with UK allies. A staunch anticommunist and Orthodox Christian, he also led Alsos Mission on German nuclear project.
