Only 2 (braindead) opinions on energy policy exist in British politics: Ideologically love renewables or ideologically hate them Neither will understand or react to big global trends like this

Idc what your economic or climate worldview is. When it's >30*C, Britain is unworkable and deadly. AC should be in every newbuild

China began work on the Medog hydropower dam this month. It will be the largest in the world with 60GW of generation - enough to power the entire of Britain... twice over. Will take only 8 years to build and cost $137bn. Roughly the same as HS2 in cost, or 4 Sizewell Cs.

I'm not at all shy of criticising UK policy, but this is an unfair comparison. UK's shift is nothing out of the ordinary vs comparable economies. The real Q is why has electricity generation consistently been lower than Germany and France

Went to the world's best museum yesterday in DC. Seeing this 65-year story still blows my mind. The most remarkable chapter in human history so far.

Yes our political elite have signed off a death warrant for this nation. But England has been around for 1,200yrs and faced oblivion many times. It's never over. There are many extremely competent patriots who will fight bitterly to turn the ship around.

Everyone has heard about the latest set of DEI demands for UK govt interns. I have a more optimistic proposal: Each year, hire a few dozen grads (British nationals only) on a £100k 1yr contract. CV-blind selection driven only by an extemely rigorous academic and interview

SSTO (single-stage-to-orbit) aka spaceplanes might be the hardware breakthrough of the 21st c. One modular solution that could cannibalise airliners, SpaceX and anything between Mach 0.6 - 25. Exciting that Reaction Engine's SABRE tech is kept going by a new consortium.

Reading Napoleon's Commentaries on the Wars of Julius Caesar. The minutae the Corsican General goes into while analysing Caesar's bridge crossings is remarkable. As the saying goes, "amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics".

Bubble is a loaded term. NVDA etc may all still collapse *if* the outlook for data centre infra collapses. But so far their meteoric increase in earnings justifies a huge stock rally. Not much speculation here

Skyrora has been given approval to launch from the SaxaVord spaceport. By 2030 we could see rockets being designed, build and launched monthly, all in Britain. 🚀🚀
