We searched for systematic reviews and ‘umbrella’ reviews (reviews of systematic reviews) that examined the effects of public health interventions, programmes and policies applied to populations and groups on the health outcomes of people experiencing socioeconomic inequalities.

There are key areas where there is evidence available to show that actions have positive effects on inequalities but also areas where evidence is lacking; particularly for actions that target living and working conditions. This is where more synthesized evidence is needed most.
