Players: It’s hard to accept your role on the team especially if you see yourself in a different role. Mental toughness is doing the right thing for the team even when it’s not always in your best interest. Accept & perfect the role you’re in while working for the role you want.

Where else but sports can we witness the best and worst so clearly? We all love it when we see character and integrity but how many people close their eyes when they see the opposite? Never hesitate to take a stand - our young people need to see what we believe by our actions.

The only fashion statement that matters here is the Sonics hat worn by IT while he was in OKC. Better yet the Nuggets beat the Thunder 105-98! #NBA

Players: Coaches want to see you take a leadership role. Upperclassmen should be teaching younger players to make good decisions on & off the court. Set an example. Be someone others look up to for doing the right things. Leaders are proud to have others follow in their footsteps

Players: Open gyms are over. Organized play is much different. Once the season begins, it’s not about U anymore. It’s about helping your team be successful. Put away your ego & focus on the team. Now is the time to perfect your role to ensure your team is the best that it can be!

Parents; stepping in every time to ‘help’ or ‘defend’ your kid, only robs them of the opportunity to build grit, courage & accountability. Their odds of success later in life increase when you step back and allow them to deal with some of life’s hard knocks & challenges.

Coaches: As coaches, the more we know about ‘who’ we coach, the more effective we will be with ‘how’ we coach. The more we know about the people we lead the more effective our leadership will be. Learn your players, form relationships, cultivate knowledge that helps you & them.

Players: Too many HS players think that being able to “get buckets” is the ticket to a college scholarship. Far more important is knowing your role, perfecting it & sticking to it. Use your role to help your team. College coaches want kids who’ve carved a niche for themselves.

The Wendy's High School Heisman Award Winners have been announced! And guess what? Both National Winners are three sport athletes, all national finalists played at least two sports, participated in activities AND excel in the classroom and the community! bit.ly/2En1QaH

Coaches: U want your players to be more confident? Create it by teaching them skills they’ve never had before. Anybody can say it, but if you want your players to be more confident, teach them. Confidence level rises in direct proportion to their improvement & your belief in them

Parents: You want your child to play, but if he/she isn’t, encourage them to compete hard in practice, keep a great attitude & be a good teammate. Don’t disparage others because of it. There’s no conspiracy theory. Sometimes the kids in front of them are just better at that time.
