what other kinds of ambient state could webrings share with each other neighboring cursors, opening hours, whether the owner is present, a bouncy ball that you toss between sites, a rain barrel for the plants, the sound of cursors rummaging through the site

Does anyone have that comic where the guy hits Ctrl-C to copy something and his left hand starts glowing with the copied content and he looks at it and is like "I must… paste!!"

Omar Rizwan We ask so much of comments. Surely this should be rendered as a lingering glow, as wear, as battle scars, heard as screech, as smolder, as tired wheeze. All flattened into words, filtered through tired chroniclers

Command prompt style UIs are in vogue now. But often it's better to let the user click the thing they want to manipulate, and show the available actions!

the Vulkan validation layers design is funny because it's very "TypeScript" energy, typechecker as optional linter rather than as an integral part of the compilation/execution pipeline

i feel like 50% of the web programming i've done has been making various editors where some slow live compilation/typecheck step runs in a web worker (and you have to ferry the data back and forth, debounce the compilation, etc) to avoid this problem

i think i'm prejudiced against `debuginfod` because i don't like the idea that debugger would have to go out to the internet to get debug symbols -- similar distaste to when you need your smartphone to go through immigration/quarantine or see the restaurant menu or whatever
