“Teaching the best and leaving the rest.” Anita Archer. Everyone should implement warm calls and active participation for all. #LitLearn2024 IDA Ontario

The most amazing learning in one weekend. Here’s an idea York Region DSB and all Ontario school boards: How about covering the cost for every willing educator to attend IDA Ontario’s Literacy conference next year?!?! May need a bigger venue though. #LitLearn2024

“Success + Value => motivation.” Anita Archer. Again! Students will be motivated and excited to read those decodable books that are “boring” because they are successful at reading them!! #LitLearn2024

Credentialism is strong in ON Education. I do not take AQ courses. I take courses to LEARN, which is why OG, RS, EBLI, SWI, ThinkSRSD…. are just some of the courses I’ve taken in the last 5 years. But I don’t have a Specialist qualification. This means I am not qualified.

I wonder how many students would tank the reading tests if AI were used instead of them being allowed to click a button and have the text read to them? tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

Phonemic Awareness & letter sounds are not only the things required to learn to read by the way. Students actually need to PRACTICE decoding ON THEIR OWN with new words not previously read together.

You know you’re rubbing off on your children when you are at church and they hear the word “advent” and turn to you to ask if it is related to “adventure”!

Will schools in Ontario start scaling back their one-to-one technology policies? My daughter's high school is one and it's frustrating trying to reduce screen time and phone and iPad use when she is expected to have it in class to "learn". Time to rethink these harmful policies.

The course "Educational Implications of Contemporary Cognitive Psychology" Memorial University should be mandatory for all current/future educators. It will completely transform how you teach and understand student learning. It's a game changer! #CognitivePsych #EduTwitter #TeacherPD
