Hosted Christine Schraner Burgener, Swiss candidate vying for UN High Commissioner for Refugees. We discussed 🇪🇹’s key priorities & expectations from the would-be High Commissioner, where she acknowledged the budget challenge in the refugee response & vowed to push for fair burden sharing.

Addis Ababa University hosting an international conference on finding durable solutions to forced displacement & migration. Researches, policies & strategies related to the matter were tabled for discussion. Enhancing regional ties & cooperation key to ensure lasting solutions.

The Appeal Hearing Council on Refugee Status Determination held a workshop to collect expert feedback, refine, enrich & finalize the Directive on RSD. The Directive would enhance 🇪🇹’s refugee protection & streamline RSD. The Appeal Hearing Council will formally be launched today.

Ethiopia launched an Appeal Hearing Council to oversee the appeals process in refugee status determination. The launch is seen as a vital devt in reinforcing fair & timely refugee status determinations by putting in place transparent & effective mechanisms for asylum seekers.

🇪🇹 is participating in the 83rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human & Peoples Rights (ACHPR). The delegation has presented 🇪🇹's report on the impt continental event hosted by the Gambia. ACHPR is the AU's primary human rights body, which promotes human rights.

At the 83rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human & Peoples Rights held in Bangul, Gambia, 🇪🇹 presented its reports on Human & Peoples Rights & the Rights of Women in Africa. After the report, the delegation addressed many of the questions posed by the Commission.

Today, alongside MoUI, MoLS & A.A. City Administration, we launched the Public Works & Youth Apprenticeship Program in Addis Ababa—boosting skills, jobs, livelihoods & social cohesion for urban refugees & host communities.

Today, I met with reps from WUSC - EUMC & Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to discuss an ambitious initiative to support refugee & displaced youth. The initiative aims to provide 25K scholarships programs for refugees & their hosts in Africa. We’re grateful for your support.

The 4th IGAD Scientific Conference on Migration & Displacement is underway in AddisAbaba, the vibrant city of Africa. Ethiopia hosts over 1 mln Refugees & ASs from different countries. GoE continue to share Burden and Responsibility Sharing with sprit of Global Solidarity.

A €1.5 mln project, aimed @ enabling policy responses across various sectors in East Africa, has been launched in Addis Ababa. It focuses on developing solution-oriented policies by examining the links of climate shock & natural resource degradation with conflict & displacement.
