In our pattern unit, my g1 Ss designed a saree for me & they were thrilled to see me wearing it today. #Deepavali celebrations at #saisrocks The art of hand carving wooden blocks & dyeing a fabric using it has been perfected over generations in India.

Tie & Dye techniques are one of the ancient methods use to add color to fabric. Inspired by the sari I am wearing, which adopted a Japanese shibori dyeing method, my g3 Ss attempted the tie & dye technique with some stunning results #deepavali celebrations at #saisrocks

My G2 artists enjoyed experimenting with colors & symmetry with fresh flowers designing a Pookkolam (flower rangoli) with friends collaboratively. Pookolams are done as indoor decorations during festivals. #deepavali celebrations at #saisrocks #sensory #sustainabledecoration

We looked at how we can use sustainable nature friendly materials for festive decorations. My g3 Ss who are into a weaving unit learned to weave this traditional coconut leaves thoranams (door decors) used for auspicious occasions in India. #deepavali celebrations at #SAISrocks

A bit of discussion on how math & art are connected, geometry, symmetry, dose of chat and laughter and such amazing attempts by my g3 artists to create symmetrical kolam patterns made it a calm yet fun, engaging art session to end the day of #deepavali celebrations at #SAISrocks

Kolam/ Rangoli, with its short lifespan, reminds us of the impermanence of our lives compared to the universe’s lifespan. Within that short time, it shows how to spread the joy to everyone around us. Sharing the colors joy from my home & my art studio at school- Happy Deepavali

I was very impressed with my 1st graders when they counted & told me that there are 2+5+3+1 times 6 triangles here in this kolam when I shared it with them. Couple of them multiplied & told me that there are 66 triangles also. #counting #shapes #strategies #math #art #kolam
