Stan Fischer and Rudi Dornbusch both gone. Their macro textbook got me hooked on economics in the early 1980s. I believe samizdat copies were circulated behind the Berlin Wall. They did a lot of higher research too, but the textbook was a model of clarity and I’d still recommend
