WFP is deeply saddened to confirm that a staff member was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Friday afternoon in Turbah, #Taiz in south west Yemen. Read the full World Food Programme statement on the death of a staff member in #Yemen: ⬇️ eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%…

#HappeningNow World Food Programme has started the distribution of food assistance & reached up to 37% of our beneficiaries so far in #Socotra, #Yemen. #CycloneTej has made the transportation of food assistance more challenging. But WFP is on the ground, making sure food is delivered on time.💪🏻

Liubov stepped on a butterfly mine while collecting apricots, losing part of her foot. As the war nears its 4th year, Ukrainians still endure its devastating consequences. World Food Programme Food and Agriculture Organization FSD (Fondation suisse de déminage) are working to clear & reclaim farm land in #Kharkiv and keep people safe from mines.

#GrainFromUkraine Initiative helps World Food Programme export #Ukraine's wheat, oil, maize & other food to some of the world's hungriest places. In 2024, 11 countries received 64,500mt in shipments, enough to feed 3M people. Thanks to the support from 🇧🇪 Belgium MFA France Diplomatie 🇫🇷🇪🇺 & other donors.

Last Friday, 500 World Food Programme food boxes were distributed in Myrnohrad #Donetsk region, just 7 km from the front line. Delivered through UN Ukraine inter-agency convoy facilitated by Logistics Cluster, this vital assistance is a lifeline for people living in #Ukraine's front-line communities.

At 86, Dina is living through a second war. Alone but resilient, Dina finds warmth and care in a boarding home in Mykolaiv. In 2024, WFP Ukraine supported 1,122 such boarding homes, hospitals, & other institutions across #Ukraine, helping feed around 150,000 people each month.

Despite loss & destruction, Iryna returned to her native village in #Kharkiv region—one of a handful of residents. Every month, World Food Programme distributes 400,000 food boxes to people like Iryna, providing essentials in frontline regions of #Ukraine where there are no functioning markets.

Kids like Eva are studying in underground schools in #Kharkiv & #Zaporizhzhia to shelter from missiles, spending up to 10 hours a day without seeing the sun. With support from World Food Programme & France Diplomatie 🇫🇷🇪🇺, schools buy vitamin D-rich foods like fish & dairy—helping children stay healthy.

Iryna and her husband lost everything—twice. Their home in #Kharkiv region was destroyed by shelling in 2022, then a missile strike in 2024 reduced it to ashes again. With no savings left, they rely on assistance from World Food Programme & other organisations, to get through the winter months.

This week I met with the Mayor of #Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov to sign an agreement between World Food Programme & the city—improving nutrition for 4,000+ young children in underground schools. World Food Programme will support daily hot meals and will add more fruit & dairy to each meal making them more nutritious.

Yesterday, I met with Head of #Kharkiv Regional Administration, Oleg Synegubov, to discuss how WFP Ukraine can best support people in the region in 2025. We will continue to provide emergency food & cash assistance near the frontline, and support daily meals for schoolchildren.

This week, I joined an inter-agency convoy to #Kharkiv region, just 11km from the front line, to see firsthand how WFP Ukraine assistance supports these communities in the winter months.

Bread is a staple in #Ukraine, but often difficult to find near the frontline as bakeries have closed down. With support of France Diplomatie 🇫🇷🇪🇺, GermanForeignOffice and other donors, World Food Programme partners with 18 small bakeries in frontline regions to ensure that communities have access to bread.

Thank you, 🇯🇵 MOFA of Japan, for your support of World Food Programme's work in #Ukraine! Your contribution helps deliver vital assistance to people in Ukraine's frontline regions— from food boxes and fresh bread from local bakeries to cash assistance for urgent needs.

Last week, I visited two underground schools in #Kharkiv region to see firsthand how schools work under these unique conditions. In Kharkiv, 4,500 kids study underground to shelter from bombs. WFP Ukraine supports daily meals to keep children well fed in these difficult times.

Once home to 60K people, #Kupiansk’s population has dropped to just 2K, mostly people 60+. Intense shelling at the frontline is 6km away. Last week Jonas Lossau, World Food Programme #Ukraine’s Head of Programme in Dnipro joined a convoy that delivered food boxes to support those who remain.

For the last 3 years, war has broken homes, dreams & futures in #Ukraine. Iryna & Gennadiy lost their home twice—first to shelling, then to a missile strike after rebuilding. With nothing left, they rely on assistance such as World Food Programme food boxes, supported by GermanForeignOffice.

Together with partners like Ukrainian Red Cross, World Food Programme delivers food supplies to Ukrainians living in frontline areas like #Kherson. This monthly assistance is a vital lifeline for older individuals in these regions, who endure nearly daily shelling.

Each day, Nataliia bakes bread that feeds Ukraine. The World Food Programme-supported small bakery in #Mykolaiv region makes fresh bread for thousands— despite power cuts & rising costs. With Development Canada, the EU🇪🇺& others, WFP distributed 74M loaves of bread across #Ukraine in the last 3 years.
