There are two steps necessary to close Guantánamo: Swiftly transferring the men who have not been or will not be charged with a crime & ending the failed military commissions. These steps can & should be completed. More: cvt.org/what-we-do/adv…

I have spent a decade opposite govt lawyers who believe themselves con law/intl law specialists, and yet fight vehemently to keep Guantanamo going. The legal and literal barbarism could never be justified, and gets harder every year.

H/t Karen Greenberg for this profound essay.

This , based on documents obtained from UK archives, tells the real story how the aftermath of US use of bioweapons in the Korean War led to a major crisis within the US military. The cover-up over US use of WMD against China & No. Korea is ongoing, not ancient history!

Today, as campaigners across the US & around the world called for the closure of at our latest coordinated monthly vigils, we highlighted how long the 16 men approved for release have been waiting since the US authorities decided they no longer wanted to hold them.

'The true fault lies not with the individuals who engage in this sexual humiliation, but in the chain of command that has allowed a culture of dehumanization and degradation to fester, despite ample international humanitarian law, and internal military protocols, that forbid it.'
