Great to see Norwich University of the Arts opening their new spaces at Bank Plain #Norwich
It was an absolute privilege to start the Commonwealth Heritage Forum Summer School 2025 at City & Guilds of London Art School this morning and to meet so many of the wonderful students from across the #Commonwealth including some from Commonwealth War Graves.
It was great to be involved with this project to sustainably reuse a modern building at the heart of historic #KingsLynn for Norfolk County Council with HudsonArchitects. It is not often you look at a historic map and find a leet ran through the building! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
On #VJDay, we remember those from across the #Commonwealth who fought. The #Kohima epitaph is famous but the Commonwealth War Graves Kohima cemetery also contains the Cremation memorial and burials of soldiers of different countries and faiths who fought together. #wewillrememberthem
A triumph! I’m extremely impressed with the skilful blending of old and new at Norwich Castle that has made the archaeology of the Norman Castle legible and given visitors a varied and engaging experience. Huge congratulations to Norfolk Museums & its design team
I was fascinated to see the crown and chair for the future Edward VIII’s inauguration as Prince of Wales at The Kings Gallery. The crown’s ostensibly typical pattern of fleurs de lis and crosses is actually made up of daffodils. Royal Collection Trust
I was not expecting to see part of the Kaba covering from Mecca or ancient Egyptian treasures in the Royal Collection exhibition! The gifts received by the Royal Family over the years are truly extraordinary in their diversity. Royal Collection Trust
Wonderful to see the Founders’ Hall in the City of London as part of London Open House I enjoyed seeing the #EastAnglian C15 Wenlock Jug.
Such extraordinary craftsmanship at Two Temple Place. Thank you The Bulldog Trust London Open House
Exploring Somerset House! Amazing to see how much work has been done since I came many years ago on another London Open House
One of the joys of London Open House is having the time to notice our fantastic built #heritage as one ambles between places that are open. I love the new landscaping around St Mary Le Strand.
Many thanks to Warminster-Maltings for the fascinating tour of the country’s last working floor maltings and especially to the prodigiously knowledgeable Robert Appel. Having worked on some East Anglian maltings, it was great to see one in action Heritage Open Days
Finishing off Heritage Open Days with a visit to Shaw House, a fascinating Elizabethan manor caught up in the Civil War and transformed internally by a C18 Duke and later a Victorian family. Restored in the 2000s by Purcell on behalf of West Berkshire Council
2 months ago I had the wonderful opportunity to meet heritage professionals from National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and City of Boroondara to learn about the challenges of #conservation and heritage skills training in the Australian state of Victoria on behalf of the Commonwealth Heritage Forum
The Rippon Lea estate in #Melbourne is a fascinating place that reflects the changing tastes of Australian high society. Learning about its conservation from its curators highlighted the similarities and differences between Australia and the UK National Trust of Australia (Victoria)
Then on to National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Tasma Terrace for the pop-up exhibition, which not only shares some of the collection with the public but also the wonderful terrace itself.
