These electricity cables in the Chess Valley will be taken down shortly as the last part of a project to improve power transmission, reduce risk to large birds and enhance the beauty of this section of the valley.

I have always thought that the view from the Farm Shop car park at the top of Blackley overlooking Elland, Greetland and the Lower Calder Valley is a splendid one, spoiled only by someone having placed a great big electricity pylon in the middle of it. The other night I decided

All the indicators of housing supply point downwards. The critical figure being the 186,000 built since the start of the Labour government. The first full year figure is unlikely to top 200,000. Leaving 1.3m to hit 1.5m target, or 325,000 a year. gov.uk/government/staโ€ฆ

How about discussing this with us! The question over food security was asked in public and should be properly answered. The UK only produces 55% of its needs. Fobbing it off Daniel Zeichner further raises concerns that this Govt. doesn't grasp the situation!

Appalling if true - social housing will not be prioritised until the government sets a target for it. We don't need a target for market housing. Commercial developers will build what they want, where they want, to achieve their profit and dividend objectives.

The only missing houses are the social houses, which the government still has not set a target for. We do not need a target for market housing! Commercial developers will build what they want, where they want, to achieve their profit and dividend objectives!

It was great to chair this Question Time for Colchester's Association of Local Councils (represents 31 councils). Huge strength of concern about the housing targets & their impact on the environment, farmland and infrastructure.

Irrigating maize in central France when it's 32 degrees C. Utter madness. Deeper and deeper boreholes being dug for farms to access water. Extreme summer temps + drought increasing here. Where's the regulation? Humanity on suicide mission.

Thanetโ€™s environment & wildlife continues to be under extreme pressure. Not only losing 700 haโ€™s to housing but now National Grid UK plan to construct a massive converter station impacting our most precious habitats. Register to have your say by Monday 23rd . Info in comments.

In Cambridge the Cam Conservators canโ€™t afford lock repairs to prevent the River Cam becoming a โ€˜muddy trickleโ€™ through the city. Meanwhile Cambridge uni alone boasts of adding ยฃ30bn to the UK economy each year. thetimes.com/uk/environmentโ€ฆ

Great article, @dalevince #StopDrax Fined for illegally burning Canadian forests. ยฃ11b in govt subsidies. ยฃ1.8b to come Responsible for 4x more emissions than UK's last remaining coal-fired plant produced. Its shareholder profits last year equated to what taxpayers paid it.

In recent days & weeks we've seen storms & flooding from China to South Africa, from India to Brazil. My heart goes out to all those affected around the world. Climate change is making extreme weather more frequent & severe everywhere. We need urgent #ClimateAction now.

Andy Yan | @ayan604.bsky.social Kerry Gold โ€œThe private sector, by its own admission, will never build housing at affordable rates โ€“ even the moderate rents, you know, the average rent level โ€“ because they simply canโ€™t make any money. โ€œSo, itโ€™s a non-starter, this notion that all we have to do is build lots of new supply,

The truth is that private builders really don't want to build much above 200,000 homes a year. Successive governments, however, have been dumb enough to believe lobbyists (backed by #hmtreasury) telling them this would change if they smashed up planning. It won't.
