‘Women weren’t included in clinical trials until the 1990s. we make up 70% of chronic pain patients but 80% of pain medication is tested only on men.’ i will never stop yelling about this. doctors know less about us so they tell us it’s all in our head. theguardian.com/books/2019/sep…

A fascinating new preprint w/one very unexpected finding suggests, I believe, that a large proportion of Long Covid may be due to chronic infection in a particular bodily niche, which could be crucial for finding effective LC treatments. It requires some explaining. 🧵 1/33

New research shows Long COVID and chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) share the same biological problem: their bodies struggle to use oxygen properly during exercise. Here's a full breakdown - and what it means.

Fun fact! The first finding (I could find) of abnormal skeletal muscle metabolism in ME/CFS was published in 1992. Later studies have refined that finding using more direct measurements and sophisticated methodologies, but this is something we’ve known about for a very long time.
