Time by the fire is never wasted. This morning willow sticks were debarked & cooked to make artists charcoal. Shredded bark was toasted for tinder. Strips of inner bark became a simple cordage bracelet. Thank you willow for your wonderful gifts 💚 @_swog Small Woods

A quick dip in our oldest woodland pond found several dragonfly (Hawker?) larvae. Despite them being all pretty & fairy-like as flying adults, these are voracious predators in a pond. They also spend years in water before metamorphosis into the adult flying form. #KentDownsAONB

We have lots of tiny baby beech trees 💚

Our final batch of home grown trees were planted out yesterday. A little late but anticipated train this week will help them settle at #WonkyWood

Watching woodland regeneration is wonderful and it's exciting to see what pops up. We recently found this little Norway maple quietly growing under the protection of a broom bush.

📢 the bluebells are coming! The first brave pioneers are nodding their dainty heads.

We have a small pond that dries up every Spring but frogs still love to lay their spawn in it. This year we've had 2 schools & several households fostering tadpoles whilst they develop & the first froglets are now ready to return to Wonky Wood.

Thank the heavens for rain. You can sense the woodland joyfully soaking it all in. 500+ newly planted trees and our desperate ponds really, really needed this.

Freedom for the first batch of fostered froglets. Back to Wonky Wood where their spawn was laid. Some were reluctant to explore but others hopped off into the grass immediately.
