Hey, Bryan Smith, a blast from the past: I stumbled upon these kindly inscribed Leisure cover flats that I must have picked up from you at World Horror Con 2001 (Seattle).

Q: Tell me the small-press limited-edition market is soft without telling me the small-press limited-edition market is soft. (I’m glad to have won it, but…wow.😕) A:

My apology for my recent daily Book Showcase hiatus. I'm selling our home of two decades, purchasing another out-of-state, and preparing a move, including packing thousands of books. Once the dust settles, I'll be back sharing pictures of books I hope you'll all find interesting.

If interested in small-press horror fiction and an old-school way of discussing it, I created months ago an email-list group. It currently has 30 members, and new members are very welcome. If you'd like to join, you can do so at the Subscribe link here: groups.io/g/SmallPressHo…

I just finished Stewart O'Nan’s OCEAN STATE and it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Dark and emotionally taut with characters of the most honest kind, and rich with allusive imagery & mournful subtext — as in this, a young girl’s passage into her looming, tragic fate:

After a recent reading rut left me frustrated & dispirited, I’ve been on a great run with my last three books: BLOOD AND LEMONADE by Joe Lansdale, OCEAN STATE by Stewart O'Nan, and THE LOW DESERT by Tod Goldberg — wonderful books all, the kind that make you remember why you read.

1980s paperbacks truly were the golden era of embossed artwork design. Not content to let the #PaperbacksfromHell volumes have all the fun, even mediocre thrillers had covers today’s authors would kill for.

Publication Day (!) of Evan Friss’ THE BOOKSHOP, a massive exploration of the historical and contemporary impact of bookstores in America. I just bought my copy*…do you have yours? *From Amazon, and I do recognize the unfortunate irony of that.😕
