58 years ago today, DPD Patrol Sergeant Carl R. Root was working his downtown beat when he made a traffic stop. The individuals in the vehicle jumped Sgt. Root, beat him unconscious, and shot him 3 times. About a month later, Sgt. Root passed away after serving 24 years with DPD.

A section of the Lakewalk between 40th and 43rd Aves East will be temporarily closed to all traffic on Wed, 8/21 to allow for tree removal work. The closure will begin at 7:30 AM Wed. and is anticipated to continue until 4:00 PM. Suggested detours in included map.
