PRIMATE, the opening night Fantastic Fest film, gives us the best face-ripping ape antagonist any horror fan could ask for. A fun film for a festival crowd, with plenty of gore and laughs to go around. Looking forward to seeing more reactions when it releases in January.

SHELBY OAKS, a new hybrid horror movie from NEON, does a fascinating job of blending found footage with traditional horror. I really dug it. Some genuine good scares and creature design. Resonated well with the Fantastic Fest crowd.

Chris Stuckmann’s Shelby Oaks brings found footage chills, demonic scares, and plenty of jump-out-of-your-seat moments. Read Our Fantastic Fest Review nerdtropolis.com/shelby-oaks-mo…

BLACK PHONE 2 ups the terrifying tension from the first film while doubling down on the supernatural elements. Blends some of the most fun elements from ghost, possession and haunting subgenres in a nail-biting horror full of thrills. I really dug it. Blumhouse

SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE definitely takes things up a notch from the first movie. It’s silly, gritty and bloody mayhem from start to finish. The Fantastic Fest crowd was cheering.

BUGONIA easily features two of the best performances of the year in Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone, in a film that’s weirdness is only made terrifying by how true to the times it feels. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER is tense, hilarious, beautiful and fantastic. Hesitant to throw around the word masterpiece, but boy is it great. Fantastic Fest crowd loved it.

THE SMASHING MACHINE is a fascinating portrait of the fragility of masculinity and an interesting look at the birth of one of our most popular sports. Dwayne Johnson is really great. Hoping this unlocked something so we can look forward to more risks from him in the future. A24

ANACONDA (2025) is knowingly silly and ridiculous, but some of the comedy bits hit so hard. Truly outrageous moments that had the theater rolling. A fun comedy in theaters!
