Scientists from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and Leibniz IPK discovered that besides the properties of the soil also the genetic make-up of the plant contribute to which microbes are to be found on maize roots. In a new paper in Nature Plants we IDed a mechanism how the host plant genotype (🌽) contributes to the recruitment of its root microbiome. We identified a 🌽 gene that modulates lateral root density by regulating the abundance of specific bacteria under N-deficiency in soil. 1/2

What role does the root play in #droughttolerantmaize? An international research team led by Frank Hochholdinger analyzed 9,000 maize varieties worldwide and identified an important gene. More about the study in Nature Genetics: uni-bonn.de/en/news/114-20… & nature.com/articles/s4158…

🌱🤖 Exciting news from @unibonn (PhenoRob) and Forschungszentrum Jülich | @[email protected] (FZ Jülich-IBG2) ! My team has developed a program that generates images to predict field crop growth from UAV images. This could help farmers forecast yields and optimize planting strategies: uni-bonn.de/en/news/124-20…
